Description
Bunshri Chandaria’s Silent Voice makes visible the invisibility of Alzheimer’s for which she was awarded a Fellowship from the Royal Photographic Society.
‘My late mother-in-law, Ramaba’s diagnosis had alarmed and saddened me. She was still the epitome of beauty but a disconnect between her and the world had set in. She went quiet. I felt a deep need to give her a voice.’
Ramaba’s personal effects triggered her random memories. These became the subject of the book, captured in Ramaba’s own words and Chandaria’s enigmatic images of the objects, shot in-situ in her mother-in-law’s familiar surroundings, along with Chandaria’s reflections on her mother-in-law’s condition.
• Testimonials: The achingly beautiful ‘Silent Voice’ by Bunshri is a poignant memento of a life well lived but also touches on how affected by Alzheimer’s. Heartbreaking yet peaceful, calm yet urgent. Highly recommended. (By doctor/photographer)
• It is a riveting story of your Bunshri’s mother-in-law and she told it with much love, empathy and compassion. Beautiful, so beautiful. It touched me deeply.
